What is Intersectional Environmentalism? 🦋⁠

Environmental issues do not exist in isolation. They are deeply intertwined with social justice, human rights, and equity. The impacts of climate change and environmental degradation disproportionately affect marginalised communities, including people of colour, indigenous peoples, low-income communities, and other vulnerable groups. Environmentalism cannot be separated from other social justice movements. ⁠

Here are three things you can do to support this movement:⁠
⁠
1. Community Garden 🌱⁠
Many communities do not have access to affordable and healthy foods, and obtaining fresh and nutritious produce can be especially challenging for some. Community gardens provide a solution that addresses both environmental and social justice issues. ⁠
⁠
2. Support Inclusive Organisations 🫶🏽⁠
Support, donate and look for organisations that prioritise equity, inclusivity, and diversity in their work, and contribute to their efforts through volunteering, donations, or other forms of support.⁠

3. Educate yourself 📚
Educate yourself about the challenges faced by marginalised communities in relation to environmental degradation, climate change, and sustainability. Read diverse voices, listen to different perspectives, and educate yourself on the historical and current impacts of environmental issues on different communities.⁠

Let's work together to create a more just, equitable, and sustainable world. Let's amplify the voices of those who are often marginalised in environmental discussions.
